A Record to be Broken !

>> A Record to be Broken !

The organizers and the Calais Chamber of Commerce have decided, as in the 2002 "Course des Phares" and the 2003 Calais Round Britain Race, to organize a competition within the competition, by rewarding the breaking of the speed record on the race's last leg, between Dover and Calais.

The daring seamen of the Calais Yacht Club will thus proudly lay anchor off the english shores, in front of Dover, day and night, hounded by the cold and spray, (think about it : is this something you would do...?*), in order to time the competitors.

The record to be broken (60' IMOCA Monohulls Category) : 1 hour, 18 minutes, 50 seconds, timing set in 2003 by OBJECTIF 3 during the Calais Round Britain Race.

(That is an average speed of 14.62 knots - about 27 km/hr - over a distance of 19 miles - about 35.2 km)

Prize awarded (if the record is broken) : 10 000 Euros

* Donations of all kinds of "tonics" may be sent to Jean-Claude LENOIR, Calais Yacht Club....
